Sterne unter der Stadt plot
Alexander grows up in a small house with his loving grandmother. To avoid his father's fate, he promises her on his tenth birthday that he will never fall in love. Every Sunday, Alexander visits his father, who has retreated to the Vienna subway since the death of Alexander's mother. As a young adult, Alexander wants to be closer to his father and decides to take a job in a long-lost office in the subway. Here he meets the beautiful and lively Caro in her cozy hat shop. Although Alexander has successfully resisted love before, his self-imposed oath now becomes a promise difficult to keep.

Alexander [Thomas Prenn] has been living with his grandmother [Margarete Tiesel] since his mother died and his father [Harald Windisch] decided to spend most of his life 'underground' to be close to his late wife. In the hope of reconnecting with his parents, Alexander goes to work in the metro station at the University in Vienna. There he falls in love with Caro [Verena Altenberger], who has a hat shop there. Raiber's screenplay is clearly inspired by the work of Jean-Pierre Jeunet (and Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain in particular), but what is missing is a mise-en-scene appropriate to magical realism . Moreover, Raiber allows himself to be seduced into a melodramatic twist that puts an end to the light-hearted tone.
