Film adaptation of the true story of Luca Trapanese [Pierluigi Gigante], a single Italian man who founded a care center for people with intellectual disabilities and is eager to adopt a child, regardless of his medical or personal record. But in Italy, adoption is purely the prerogative of married couples. Luca would be the first single person allowed to adopt and that makes the road to adoption long and difficult. Luca gets support from Teresa Raniere [Teresa Saponangelo], who knows the system inside and out. Mollo treads all kinds of side paths, including Luca's first homosexual experience with childhood friend Lorenzo [Alessandro Piavani], but these are ultimately of no significance and only distract from the central storyline. The only striking moments are when he learns to care for Alba, a baby with an intellectual disability, and the only moments when he gives free rein to his feelings about the entire process. An interesting story that could and should have made for a much more interesting and compelling film.
