Pulang plot

The well-meaning but impulsive Agus (32) takes his teenage daughter Robin (14) to his parents in the Moluccan district for the summer holidays. Here he hopes to improve their father-daughter relationship and introduce the Dutch-born Robin to Moluccan culture: fighting kites, food, music, solidarity and spirituality. But unresolved trauma within the family puts their relationship on edge, with father and daughter in danger of drifting further and further apart.

With the promise of a summer house with a swimming pool, Agus [Joenoes Polnaija] takes his 14-year-old daughter Robin [Joy Esschendal] to the neighborhood where he grew up. There he hopes to strengthen ties with his parents and his former best friend [Gerson Oratmangoen]. Schwab himself grew up in a Moluccan family and paints an authentic picture of the associated norms and values. Nel Lekatompessy has a beautiful role as Robin's grandmother, who helps her granddaughter in the search for her identity. Telefilm has few surprises and the kite flying scenes don't work, but the acting is reasonable and it is a relief that 'ordinary' Moluccans are central to a Dutch film.

I didn't think it was a bad movie.

Partly because I (belanda) grew up for many years in my youth until I was about 20

with Moluccans and Indian people.

Recognize many things, such as the hospitality, the food, the families themselves, the often ever-present music and also the respect for your parents in particular.

I also thought the unknown actors played their roles quite well.

apart from the sudden ending...which is a bit less,

Watching this telefilm is still worth it.
