Chime plot
Matsuoka gives cooking lessons to, among others, the peculiar student Tashiro. He claims that his brain has been partly replaced by a machine and that he hears a voice. Matsuoka himself is startled by a sound signal and since then a feeling of fear has overcome him. He walks the line between reality and the unreal.

A short finger exercise by Kiyoshi Kurosawa about a frustrated cooking teacher who is confronted with an unpleasant sound. The short film is a brutal story that subtly plays with psychopathic and paranormal elements.
A cool set design in the form of a soberly modernist kitchen underlines the interpersonal coldness that prevails in this microcosm where the drive for achievement and perfectionism set the tone. And it is in this microcosm that the sound suddenly appears that imprints a murderous urge in the minds of the listeners. Aggression that is normally suppressed by standards of decency is discharged and manifests itself in random bloodthirsty attacks of madness that are therefore untraceable. This creates an atmosphere of alienation and fear.
Chime is a short film with a cold, ominous effect and with eccentric characters who display corresponding behavior. A film with an ironic layer too. The story is somewhat jumpy and mixes horror (dark atmosphere and slasher elements) with social criticism. It all sounds nice and it is nice, but I was not blown away. The cold atmosphere did not grab me. Chime simply never became more than a nice short film.
