Van Kilsdonk consciously chose to have many people with an Asian background in front of and behind the camera for a story that takes place in and around 'Happy Palace', a Chinese-Indonesian restaurant in an unnamed village. Chang [Aaron Wan] and Suk Wai [Mei Ling Wan] started the restaurant 35 years ago and their Dutch-born children Yung Ling [Donna Tang] and Lok Man [Tenzing Woing] have found their own way. When Chang suddenly dies of a heart attack, it turns out he left the restaurant to the children. The three main characters do a fine job and the setting is original, but unfortunately the approach is quite conventional. The screenplay by Ilse Ott and Yan Ting Yuen contains too many ideas and that comes at the expense of emotional depth.

quite a nice video.

great story, great actors

Even though I didn't know them, they still played an excellent role.

and indeed what was mentioned/noticed earlier

the 3 leading actresses not mentioned in the info/index

only the small roles of the Dutch actors

Not Nicole van Kilsdonk's strongest film about two Chinese adult children who have to take over their father's Chinese restaurant after his death. A rather mediocre script and superficial story. And the acting is also somewhat lackluster. But otherwise the film was enjoyable to watch.
