Abigail plot

In 1976, Abigail moves with her mother to a small town in Alabama in hopes of escaping a violent past. There, Abigail makes friends with the boy next door Lucas, who is mercilessly bullied by a group of children at school. Determined to help him get revenge, Abigail takes matters into her own hands, but things quickly spiral out of control. As Lucas begins to discover the dark and twisted nature of his new girlfriend, the situation takes a deadly turn. He will have to choose whether to stay by her side or stop her before it's too late.

An entertaining trifle that searches hard for successful plot points, yet manages to conceal them until the very end. Ava Cantrell's lead role is a shame, as she doesn't quite convincingly portray a manipulative teenager and doesn't seem to receive much direction from director Melissa Vitello. On the one hand, she has to give in as a seductive young woman; in the next scene, it's clearly a child again. Fortunately, the story itself is quite captivating, and the budding chemistry between the two young cast members is solid, but Abigail isn't particularly extravagant. There's no suspense, clever psychology, or raw violence, dooming this project to remain obscure.
