Attorney Annabelle Martinelli specializes in domestic violence lawsuits. Doreen Markowitz calls for help after reporting her husband Leon to the police for sexual assault. In court, Leon is represented by Annabelle's former boss, John Quante. Leon refutes Doreen's claims, saying that the injuries she suffered are the result of several suicide attempts.

After an incident in the shoe store where she works, Doreen [Nurit Hirschfeld] is persuaded to leave her husband Leon [David Schütter] and seek help from a lawyer [Natalia Wörner]. Doreen is temporarily housed in a women's shelter while Leon uses his position as a police officer to manipulate the colleagues involved in the investigation. A very moralizing German drama with a melodramatic denouement reminiscent of the patronizing films of the 1910s. Because Becker hardly makes the men's transgressive behavior concrete, it is remarkably dramatically flat and not at all compelling.
