Analog plot

Satoru Mizushima is a designer who prefers traditional things such as handmade objects and handwritten works. One day he meets the mysterious Miyuki Miharu in the Piano café. She seems to have the same values as him and Satoru is attracted to her. Since she doesn't have a cell phone, they promise to meet in the cafe every Thursday. Their relationship soon takes a romantic turn, but when Satoru plans to propose to Miyuki, she doesn't show up at the cafe.

Very nice.

Also quite small, and on paper very much in line with a niche of similar films that usually fail to fully hold my attention. Romance with tragedy in the form of illness/distance. But the script is by Kitano and Takahata has proven himself to be a good director before, and together they effectively make a beautiful film out of it.

Although Kitano's touch is mainly visible to those who know what to look for. Takataha keeps things mostly calm and serene, ensuring that the sentimentality in the story never truly takes over. Audiovisually pleasing but somewhat classic, the acting is a clear asset here. Sweet and cute, and also quite heartwarming.
