Bonhoeffer vs. the Third Reich plot

This film is based on the life story of Dietrich Bonhoeffer and his struggle against the Third Reich. Bonhoeffer is a German Lutheran pastor, theologian and anti-Nazi dissident who is a key founding member of the Confessing Church movement. In addition to his theological writings, Bonhoeffer is known for his fierce opposition to the Nazi dictatorship, including his outspoken opposition to Hitler's genocidal persecution of the Jews. He was arrested by the Gestapo in April 1943 and imprisoned for a year and a half in Tegel prison. Later he is transferred to Flossenbürg concentration camp where he is eventually hanged.

The story of Protestant theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer [Ryan Holland] is here reduced to a series of sermons and preachy dialogues with friends and colleagues who want to force him to propagate Hitler's national socialist view of faith. Although the story begins in New York and moves to Berlin and covers 15 years of Bonhoeffer's life, everything is clearly filmed in the same 'church' for a minimal budget with a minimally talented cast. Ironic that the Bonhoeffer in this biography fights Nazi fascism with a fundamentalist fascist view of faith. Propagandistic botch is not worth watching. Not to be confused with Bonhoeffer: Pastor. Spy. Assassin. which was shown in Dutch cinemas.
