Rudy! A Documusical plot

As Donald Trump's personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani is one of the most important pillars of his presidential campaign. In the 1990s, he made waves as the federal prosecutor who successfully battled the mafia in New York, and as mayor of New York in the aftermath of 9/11, he became a folk hero who commanded respect around the world. This documentary - with some musical intermezzos - investigates how and why Rudy Giuliani continues to unconditionally support his friend Donald Trump.

Anyone who knows the lyrics to 'A Message To Rudy' by The Specials will immediately understand why Rudy Giuliani did not wish to participate in this so-called 'docu-musical'. Rothstein is not looking for an objective portrait of the former federal prosecutor and mayor of New York, but tries to find an explanation for his questionable role in Donald Trump's presidential campaigns. But the look back at Giuliani's professional life in the 1990s is an interesting history lesson, as is how 9/11 helped him quickly boost his badly damaged reputation. Oprah Winfrey's introduction of Giuliani is downright shocking, considering Giuliani's thinly veiled racism in previous years. Friends and opponents have their say, but cannot hide the bias. Every now and then a choir sings some lines in a theater, hence the term 'documusical'.
