Breaking Social plot
All societies are based on the idea of a social contract. We are told that if we work hard, if we treat others with respect, if we play by the rules, we will be rewarded. But then there are those who break the rules, take advantage of tax havens and reap profits without paying anything back to society. This documentary examines the global patterns of kleptocracy and extractivism, including a murdered investigative journalist in Malta, a dried up river in Chile and the impoverished state of West Virginia, where gas, coal and oil have been extracted for a century; all turning points that make people want to organize and protest.
