In 1981 New Zealand, Josh Waaka is a seventeen-year-old misfit at rugby-obsessed St Gilbert's College. Meanwhile, the Springboks rugby union team, representing apartheid-era South Africa, is touring New Zealand, sparking nationwide protests and dividing the country. Josh's newfound passion for acting and a greater awareness of his Māori heritage plunge him headlong into a conflict where he is forced to conform or stand up for himself, his family and his future.

Beautiful film about the awareness of a Maori teenager during a riot about the visit of a South African rugby team to New Zealand. Most beautiful scene: a version of the Haka performed by the demonstrators. Highly recommended in several respects.
