Einvera plot
An elderly farmer leads a peaceful life in the countryside until the government forces him to put his farm up for sale. He leaves his former life behind and moves to the capital where he meets a ten-year-old paperboy. Their friendship will change both their lives.

Since his father's death 19 years ago, Gunnar [Þröstur Leó Gunnarsson] has lived in seclusion on the family farm, his only friend being a horse. After the Icelandic government forces him to leave for a princely sum so the area can be flooded, Gunnar moves to Reykjavik, where he conceals his millionaire status by collecting and returning deposit cans every day. His life is turned around by paperboy Ari [Herman Samúelsson], for whom Gunnar proves to be a safe haven at a time when Ari's parents, Unnur [Anna Gunndís Guðmundsdóttir] and Orri [Hjörtur Jóhann Jónsson], are increasingly at each other's throats. A simple, beautifully acted portrait of a man discovering the wonders of city life and connecting with others late in life. Gunnarsson and Samúelsson are fantastic, especially during the chess scenes.

A mediocre film about a farmer living a lonely life in the countryside who moves to the city. The friendship that develops between the farmer and a young boy is central and is, in itself, beautiful to watch. But the film as a whole is a bit dull, and the final section was somewhat unnecessary in my opinion. Just shy of 3 stars.

Ouch, I was a bit disappointed with this
I generally enjoy small and personal stories, so until about halfway through this film it was still going well despite the slow pace.
Just when something needed to happen to keep things interesting, the story suddenly veers into a cheap, over-the-top drama with stereotypical characters and behavior, so much so that the ending was practically a foregone conclusion. There's little point in waiting for a surprise twist.
Too bad, too thin plot with a much too cheap and obvious drama ending in my opinion.
