Schmidt visited several places where scientists try to fathom the secret of psychological fears, so that they can help people to be 'normal'. Instead of making it clear to their subjects that having fears is not abnormal, the scientists subject them to experiments. "Coping Kids" for children aged 4 to 12 in Norway, a "Masterplan Community" near Lake Nona in the US are studies in which the clients are test subjects for remarkable research methods. In Haarlem we follow Maarten Nijsen, who suffers from psychosis, although it seems that the researchers cannot follow him. Schmidt registers where critical questioning would have been appropriate. For example, why scientists want to know how they can make people conform and what gives them the right to determine what is 'normal' and what is not.
