Sharksploitation plot

"A documentary that goes into the jaws of Hollywood."

Sharks existed before Steven Spielberg's 'Jaws' in 1975, but they were never the same after the film's release. From movies about sharks to the way the public viewed these marine creatures - sharks' lives were forever changed and a subgenre of cinema emerged: sharksploitation. This documentary - supported by interviews with filmmakers, actors, marine biologists and more - explores the strange and wild history of cinema. From 'Jaws' to 'Deep Blue Sea', which gave new life to the genre, and of course the crazy 'Sharknado' series.

Nice, very entertaining documentary about the impact of Steven Spielberg's Jaws and the birth of a subgenre of cinema: sharksploitation. The documentary tackles the subject a bit too broadly, which means that many films come off rather poorly, but the enthusiastic approach and the fun interview fragments make this a success. Veterans Roger Corman and Joe Dante are of course always pleasant company, but it is also nice to see people like Andrew Traucki (The Reef) and Chris Kentis (Open Water) speak. Even the people behind production company The Asylum (Sharknado) can have their say. And they are a lot more intelligent than you would suspect...
