Dan Bellows meets former stage diva Joyce Heath who has descended into a poor alcoholic. He takes her to Connecticut to rehabilitate. He tries to revive Joyce's career. And meanwhile, he has a crush on her.

Superb portrayal of a still young Bette Davis in a film that does not reach the highest level in terms of story.
It is Hollywood at its narrowest and widest with a main character falling into extreme emotions and everything else goes lightning fast even if it was nothing : loves for life, marriages and divorces à la minute, unimaginable and ill-considered drastic decisions and turnarounds and let it all fall into a generous fold.
'I wonder if the American public didn't understand at the time that it was all far from reality or was the idol idolization of the stars enough not to think about it.
But it's well packaged, smooth and has a certain charm about it and it's not bad to see it again after all. Especially Bette then.

Nice film with which davis won an oscar for her performance , a performance that was good but not so good that it was worthy of an oscar .
Furthermore, I did not really find the romance that quickly develops between the two portrayed very convincingly, although you can of course use the argument that he already idolizes her because of her acting performances.
All in all, quite an entertaining story, but not a top film and I have seen Davis play more impressive roles after that.
