The Hills of Donegal plot
Eileen Hannay is a promising singer with an Irish opera company. She gives up her singing future to marry Terry O'Keefe. Eileen is unaware that Terry has been dating Carole Wells, another of the company's singers who has loaned him money. Annoyed that he is now marrying Eileen, she tells him he must pay or suffer the consequences. Meanwhile, Terry and Eileen return to her late parents' ramshackle estate in Donegal to begin a married life. Terry's intolerance of the local gypsies, his penchant for booze and Carole's pressure cause their lives to begin to fall apart.
