Hilary Swank is exceptionally good with a varied role in this true-life tearjerker. The wonders are not yet out of the world. A beautiful story about atypical indomitability against the background of a harrowing family drama. You will naturally feel good about it.

Despite an intervention from her colleague and good friend Rose [Tamala Jones], Sharon Stevens [Hilary Swank] refuses to admit that she has a drinking problem. When Sharon learns that 5-year-old Michelle Schmitt [Emily Mitchell] suffers from the same liver disease that killed Michelle's mother [Amy Acker], she sets out on a personal mission to get father Ed [Alan Ritchson] out of debt and ensuring that Michelle has the resources to get to a hospital in time as soon as a liver is available. Described as a religious drama, this story (based on true events from 1993 and 1994) focuses mainly on community spirit and the importance of organ donation. The screenplay by Meg Tilly and Kelly Fremon Craig gives Swank and Ritchson in particular complex, challenging roles that they can sink their teeth into. Mitchell is just disarming enough as the sick daughter in this heart-warming tearjerker.

Boy, did I need a tissue here. This was heartbreaking. A truly fantastic drama film. Unknown is unfortunately unloved so spread the word, go see this people. True stories are always so powerful too. Glad that after The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare I started looking for what Alan Ritchson had played and then I came across this one and I thought this could really be a top film and my hunch was right. I think Hilary Swank also has a knack for choosing good films. Need to see more of her too. People, go see this!
