Kelly plot

Kelly was the first trans woman we met in the Netherlands through the reality show Big Brother. Much has been said to or about Kelly on national TV over the years. Were those comments really that normal when you put it in perspective?

It was sometime just after 9/11 that a colleague pointed me to Kelly in Big Brother 3. Now I never had anything with Big Brother in itself, but I actually followed it for a few weeks. After Big Brother it all started nicely with Barend & Van Dorp and Ivo Niehe, but then it became Robert Jenssen and hope in shit in the media. At that time, Kelly also started to profile herself a bit as the dumb blonde. So it turns out that she herself also found it absolutely worthless.

Kelly today is cynical, hard, a survivor, definitely a pioneer and yet I understand that she is not happy. Those bad boyfriends don't really help either. Hopefully she really leaves that behind and is just looking for a nice down-to-earth boy, maybe Andries wasn't so crazy after all.

Try to actually see this documentary and try to understand what it was like as a transgender person at that time. Seems a bit better now in terms of acceptance, but just read comments on Twitter and Nu.nl when it comes to transgender people. Normally I avoid this kind of documentaries and programs a bit. I'm more of a mermaid who likes life as long as I don't want too much to do with the whole outside world, but I was curious how she's fared over the past twenty years.
