Sira plot
Sira, a young Fulani nomad, and her family are traveling to meet her groom. She is a strong and self-confident woman, her Muslim father trusts his daughter and so has agreed to a marriage between her and her childhood sweetheart Jean Sidi, a Christian. But on the way, the family is attacked by Islamist terrorists, and the men are shot dead in cold blood. Cursing the attackers for their deed, Sira is kidnapped and raped - and left alone in the middle of the desert to face what appears to be certain death. But Sira doesn't give up...

A somewhat improbable story about a young woman who hides for months (and pregnant) near a jihadist camp after her relatives are murdered by them. It's little more than an example of the growing influence of jihadism in sub-Saharan Africa, and the story itself isn't very long, but what beautiful images this filmmaker conjures up to do justice to the colors of Africa. A pleasantly watchable piece of world cinema, filmed in Mauritania.
