The Adults plot

A short trip back home turns into a longer stay when Eric finds himself caught between meeting his two sisters and conquering his old poker group. The more Eric prolongs his visit to prove he's still the best poker player in town, the harder it becomes to avoid the old rifts in his relationship with his sister, Rachel. As their sister Maggie tries to recreate the intimate world they once shared, Eric and Rachel are confronted with the gulf between their childhood and the adults they have become.

Separate film that you cannot quickly compare with another film. Sometimes I wonder if Michael Cera but also Jesse Eisenberg are good actors because they always play the same kind of roles. A sociable, awkward person; somewhat autistic, but they always play that and in this film again. Do they play themselves every time or are they typecast? I have no idea. Seems really annoying to have to play these kinds of roles over and over again even though they do well.

This film has a distinct family dynamic with very strong and authentic acting. You can't fully identify or read the characters properly. Are they depressed, mentally ill or a little crazy or a combination of all those things together? I wouldn't call this movie a comedy because the comedy in this movie is cringe or discomfort without being funny. I didn't laugh once. At one point, the main character made a joke, which is not really good, and no one at the table laughed. Discomfort. You can't read the characters well, it remains somewhat mysterious, although there is a conclusion. There is also poker in this film which I can appreciate and which is well portrayed.

Reasonable film about a man who comes to visit his two sisters again after a while. A slice-of-life film that can sometimes seem a bit boring and aimless (but this also suits the characters). The interaction between the brother and sisters is portrayed credibly. This is certainly also due to good casting.
