In the pioneering years of space travel, the focus was mainly on technology. The first astronauts were experienced pilots who were not concerned about the psychological effects of space travel. It was not until the 1990s that NASA appointed a psychologist and started a department that focused entirely on the interaction between the technical resources to be used and the people who have to use or operate them. This documentary shows how NASA focuses on 'the human factor' in the preparation for an expedition to Mars that will last 3 years and contains interviews with astronauts and family members who are first-line experts.
