A film in which the main character decides to go on a hike to an old colleague who is in a hospice about 2000 km away. He is convinced that the colleague will live as long as he is walking. Whether or not that will work remains the question throughout the film. Friendly film that never goes out of the way. England also looks realistic, so without too beautiful shots. And the weather is also English. Of course he meets different people and everyone is basically friendly. Whether the reason for the walk is actually the death of the colleague only becomes clear at the end of the film.

Reasonable film about a retired man who decides to go for a long walk. The kind of film that could be based on a true story (but not in this case). A road movie with a predictable progression that is sometimes a bit boring. Both sad and hopeful in tone. Enough beautiful pictures of the English landscape and a great role by Jim Broadbent. A small 3.0 stars.

This looks a lot like a copy of The Last Bus with Timothy Spall. You don't even have to put in much effort to see the similarities. I enjoyed watching this, but you can't call it all that great. It's just all too much. Too sentimental, too coincidental, too corny, too forced... And that's a shame.

The English landscape may be an asset, but it is one of the few things that remain standing. Broadbent may be a solid actor, but he still walks around aimlessly here, literally and figuratively. I don't really understand the subplot, which only really becomes clear towards the end. I didn't think those flashbacks really fit the atmosphere of the film. It even took me out. Apart from all this, the atmosphere is also spiced up a bit with that dog and that gang of unworldly nitwits who insisted on joining us for a walk. If I had wanted to go on a trip like that - just me (!) - I would have taken the piss out of those do-gooders.

And despite all the negativity, the film was still enjoyable. It's in the little things, the difficult relationship with his wife, the beautiful landscape and the ugly decor of the English cities, Broadbent's acting, the pace...
