Mad Cats plot

Young Taka goes in search of his brother Mune. He is assisted by a new friend and a mysterious woman. They must face a group of ruthless cats who turn against humans.

Fine.

Pure comedies are rare these days, luckily you can never completely kill such a genre. Dupieux is someone who keeps the absurd side alive, Tsuno presents himself as a kind of Japanese counterpart. Weird slacker comedy in a universe that is never fully explained.

We do know that we live in a kind of cat world, where a group of "mad cats" kidnapped an archaeologist who was in possession of mythical catnip. And his brother has to go save him, together with some wanderer he meets. There isn't much more explanation, then again, who wants to waste time making such a setting fully understandable. The weirdness is part of the fun.

Visually it is good, actors know what they are doing and the mix of dry/slow comedy with absurdities works very well. Also some action here and there, not badly done, but ultimately not the main selling point. I would like to see more films like this, fortunately this one is relatively easy to watch.
