Sean Connery vs James Bond plot

Scottish actor Sean Connery made a smashing impression when he first played the role of secret agent James Bond in 1962's Dr. no. Paradoxically, its worldwide success marks the beginning of Connery's search for roles in other films with more depth. It wasn't until the 1980s that he really found his feet in roles in which he played the charismatic, older mentor of young actors.

Monro investigates Sean Connery's uneasy relationship with James Bond. It was the role that conquered the world and it took him a lot of effort to give his acting career a different direction. This documentary focuses on Connery's favorite movie The Hill, his most daring role in The Offence and of course his Oscar-winning role in The Untouchables. Unfortunately, it contains some substantive errors and inaccuracies, which does not benefit credibility.

He wanted to get rid of being addressed, recognized and acknowledged as James Bond, but it didn't stop him from making a few comebacks...and he actually fit into action roles with a touch of romance.

However, it could also be a bit more nuanced as in "The Hill", "The Man who would be King" and "The name of the Rose", in which he also excelled.

The film is limited exactly as the title indicates and unfortunately we have to put it that way with a short look at its roots and the first years.

Mediocre.

Sean Connery had to find his way and while I can quite believe that he was the first James Bond to get off relatively badly financially and was annoyed that hordes of fans showed up at his door, I have little compassion for it. All in all, the best man has had a great career. Starting in a time when Hollywood was changing, he managed to put some variation in his roles and films. The fact that not all of them have become masterpieces does not change that.

The documentary is quite classic. It's not very informative - as a film buff I know a little too much about Connery's career for that. Throwing off the yoke of Bond - what it's all about here - turned out to be not easy, but if you make an unofficial Bond film yourself when you are well over 50, you will of course also look for it yourself. I'm glad for him that after Never Say Never Again he became the Connery people my age remember - that of the wise, bearded mentor - but this documentary didn't really do much for me.

2.5
