A big role for sign language in this, somewhere still a novelty in the film world and therefore quickly quite original. At my work floor I do my best with the deaf barista so funny to see a few of those signs passing by
Other daily aspects of life for the hearing impaired are also discussed. Because of the target group, this is all treated in a somewhat academic way.

That creepy clown somewhere in the middle of the movie is actually quite curious, haha

12-year-old Jamie [Mae van de Loo] has just reluctantly moved to a boarding school for the deaf when she hears that her father [Arjan Bouwmeester], mother [Bente Jonker] and sister [Josephine Koning] are on their way to Paris because Jamie's (also deaf) grandmother [Petra Karlas] has suffered serious injuries as a result of a fall. Jamie doesn't know what to do, but her new classmate Imane [Douae Zine El Abidine] convinces her to travel to Paris by train together. The journey doesn't go according to plan and the girls have to fend for themselves in unfamiliar surroundings. Van Kilsdonk mainly films the film from Jamie's perspective, so without sound and music. Imane has a cochlear implant that allows her to communicate somewhat easily and that also plays a role in the relationship between Jamie and Imane. The title refers to a song by the punk band The Ear Wurms with whom Jamie and Imane (in one of the highlights of this adult film for children) learn to enjoy music together despite their disability. Van Kilsdonk succeeds again in making her young cast act completely naturally. A wonderful family film.
