Keeping a film on one location with only one actor, it may still be Willem Dafoe, entertaining and fascinating is not so easy. Inside only partially succeeds in this. After about 80 minutes it was also allowed to end for me. The film does not escape some kind of aimlessness or even dullness over time.

The hallucinations or flashbacks in no way obscure that idea, on the contrary I would almost say. The role of Bervoets is just pointless, then I would rather have a video screen where the owner just laughs at or triggers his prisoner. And yet I found the film entertaining despite the fact that the tension gradually disappeared. A lot has to do with Dafoe himself who is doing fine. You also have to deal with the burglar, which helps.

The movie (or character) sometimes makes strange choices or starts something and then seems to stop only to continue days later. Best scene I thought was the freezer scene, just like the scenes with the faeces and that dog look. Horrifying and disturbing even. And then I hoped that the film would go in the psychic / psychological direction, but that came out far too little.

A malfunction in the security system of a luxury New York penthouse traps art thief Nemo [Willem Dafoe] there. Although an alarm goes off, there is no rooster crowing at him or at the apartment (which is filled with valuable works of art). The basic services are shut down and the apartment grows colder, but Nemo still has access to the security cameras as he waits like a Robinson Crusoe for a liberation that never comes. A completely idiotic basic fact, of course, which, despite Dafoe, is hardly visible. Bervoets and Strucyk can be seen in some flashbacks.

I thought this was quite an interesting film. Although the setting is a bit static, there's certainly enough going on to keep your attention, and there's a nice piece of philosophy to ponder, with the text Dafoe writing on the wall as a handle. Clearly intended to be broader, to symbolize the way we live and deal with our planet, as a counterweight to mindless capitalism and the new colonialism with which the earth and space are ruthlessly exploited.

My only point of criticism is the architectural impossibility of the final exit - and visually also a clear deviation from the design of the otherwise seriously beautiful apartment. Perhaps chosen this way because the budget did not allow anything better.

More than compensated for by the soundtrack during the end credits. Still a beautiful song. And there will be a speech afterwards, although it may be a bit too lazy.
