How to Blow Up a Pipeline plot

"This is an act of self defense."

Some young environmentalists hatch a risky plan to blow up an oil pipeline. Among them is Xochitl, who just lost her mother to a heat wave. Displeased with the lack of action against climate change, she has since turned to sabotaging and destroying property. All in an effort to be heard.

Weak. However, this drama with a touch of thriller received a positive response. A group of young activists make bombs to blow up a pipeline. The entire film follows this process, which is interrupted by small cliffhangers with flashbacks that should explain why they participate in this action. The underlying motivations are drawn from current themes such as pollution and climate change, but these are at most mentioned and not further elaborated. The young people are furious for personal reasons and we have to make do with that. I don't like this kind of sloppy narrative structure. The low-budget execution also makes the film visually unattractive.

Xochitl [Ariela Barer] is the leader of an elaborate operation with which she and seven others want to seriously hinder the transport of oil and eventually destroy the entire oil production. The execution of the operation is interrupted at crucial moments by flashbacks, in which we learn about each participant's background and why they joined this controversial action. The deepening of the characters is certainly useful, but Goldhaber interrupts the tension. As a thriller it therefore does not get off the ground, although in fact it is mainly Gavin Brivik's music that tries to give the impression of tension. The theme offers food for thought, this film – despite the good intentions – makes insufficient use of it and is less controversial than it should have been.

Reasonable thriller about a group of activists who want to blow up an oil pipeline, the story is well told and every character gets his piece. But otherwise there is not much spice in this small film, nice for once but that's it for me.
