Raw film about a poverty-stricken family that does not hesitate to take drastic measures to provide shelter for a drug dealer. The film looks realistic but nevertheless did not really appeal to me. Some scenes are reminiscent of Kochegar [The Stoker] (Russia, 2010)

In a remote Brazilian rural village, caring for elderly Firmino [Benedito Alves] has become so expensive that the family of his daughter Irene [Maeve Jinkins] can no longer afford it. On the advice of Firmino's nurse Juracy [Aline Marta Maia], the family decides to make their home available as a safe house for Miguel [César Bordón], a ringleader of the drug trade, for a generous fee. In particular, Irene and her 9-year-old son Jairo [Rômulo Braga] use their new income to treat themselves, but the family gradually discovers the negative side effects of their decision. Markowicz's feature film debut is excellently filmed on location and provides sharp criticism - with a pleasant dose of black humor - on the way poverty and drug crime are intertwined, but it takes a long time to get going.
