Vikingulven plot

"All werewolves have a story. This is the Norwegian one."

Seventeen-year-old Thale has just moved to the small town of Nybo with her family because her mother has a new job with the local police. Shortly afterwards, at a beach party with local youths, a student is brutally murdered. Thale is a key witness in the case. No one knows who did it, but according to the clues, it could be an animal. Maybe a wolf. During the investigation, Thale's mother Liv discovers that they may be dealing with something completely different and unfamiliar. At the same time, Thale begins to see noticeable things and behave strangely. What happens in Nybo at the next full moon?

Mixed but entertaining Norwegian version of An American Werewolf In London. Mediocre scenes are interspersed with effective ones, resulting in an unbalanced whole. The sympathetic cast, the atmospheric camera work and the reasonably successful special effects keep the film just on track, but director Stig Svendsen drops quite a few stitches, especially in terms of editing. As a result, there is hardly any build-up of tension and a number of action scenes go horribly wrong.

The title may suggest that it is a horror film in a historical setting. So no. Only the prologue, in which wild Vikings invade a monastery, takes place in history. The rest of the film is set in the present.

Apart from the fact that the prologue produces a fine atmospheric image, the added value is of no value whatsoever. The prologue might as well have been left out. And that conclusion is really a shame given the excellent quality of this piece of history. A second observation is that the prologue is the only part of the film that distinguishes itself from other mediocre films that deal with the werewolf theme. At least now the film can boast a part that is not immediately forgotten.

Vikingulfen is standard. A movie with default characters and default backgrounds. The standard is extra noticeable, because the film is not exciting at all. The scenario offers no surprises at all. In addition, the special effects are very poor. The moments when there is something to see are scarce. And in those rare moments, it is especially striking how cheap and fake the ferocious threat looks. werewolf movie

However, there are some points on which the film scores. The setting is atmospheric. A remote area with a lot of forest always works well. And there's the sparing use of light that helps create an ominous atmosphere. I've already talked about the prologue. That's good. That's about it. Little bit actually. And that's why Vikingulfen is a mediocre werewolf movie.

Bad.

Very cheap and bland horror thriller. The wolf looks bad both in design and CGI and they also fail to create any suspense. There is also no question of some self-mockery - if tension is too much to ask. It remains a serious, but very bland film.
