Vous N'aurez Pas Ma Haine plot

On November 13, 2015, Islamic terrorists murdered 89 people who were attending a concert that night in Le Bataclan. Hélène Leiris is one of the victims. The 35-year-old makeup artist lived a happy life with her husband, Antoine Leiris, a culture journalist. Together they had a 3-year-old son, Melvil. After the drama, Antoine's world collapses. The thought of living without his wife is unbearable. He writes an emotional open letter to his wife's killers on Facebook. His words go around the world.

Reminded me strongly of Revoir Paris (Film, 2022), that other recent French film about the attacks in Paris. Listed here I found more layered and stronger than this "Vous n'aurez pas ma haine". Nevertheless, also a film that comes with the idea as the title puts it: what if you don't want to express hatred towards the terrorists who killed your life?" That is what happens to the main character Antoine Leiris.

True and based on real facts. No evidence. It certainly isn't, because just because you can't hate doesn't mean it doesn't hurt. On the contrary. His message is eagerly picked up in the (social) media. Beautiful little tender film about sadness and mourning. Nicely put together. Nice!

Very beautiful penetrating film. Both the beginning, where the feeling of that day and the powerlessness and fear are very strongly portrayed, but the drama afterwards also remains subtle enough to be truly convincing and compelling. The moments between father and son are beautiful. That part about that entire Facebook post is actually rather vague (and is also somewhat poorly developed. Furthermore, and secretly these are the weakest moments, only that thank you from that woman in the subway was moving and nicely done), the film is much more about grieving and moving on. Beautiful atmospheric images, well acted, fascinating. The film mostly keeps focus (in story and on characters) without too much plot and is therefore a lot more convincing than last year's Revoir Paris. 4.0*.
