Soft & Quiet plot

"Hate thy neighbour"

Unable to have children, Emily fills that void through her teaching profession. However, she uses her position to push her view of white supremacy among her students. She sets up a meeting where she calls on extreme right-wing women to take action. They want to continue the meeting with Emily, but first stop by the store. That's where it goes wrong.

Soft & Quiet

I wouldn't really call this a thriller, more like a drama. But wow, what a movie. I liked the way this film was shot (apparently in 1 take) and I also thought it was appropriate.

Then to the story. The realization that there really are people who think like these women is insane. That is also a compliment to the ladies, because they all acted very well. But what an annoyance when you hear what they all said. Read many comments that the film would be very shocking. It surprised me and I thought it was pretty intense, but I've seen worse things in movies.

Unfortunately, this theme is still the order of the day and it is good to keep making these kinds of films, to hopefully open the eyes of more people and do something about it together.

3 stars.

Meh. Well, there really are people like that, who always project their own failures, their own shortcomings, and even their own stupid bad luck onto someone else. Every day, day after day, year after year. And even worse, they believe it themselves, and they also have a following who are happy to defend their position - a few examples can easily be found in the comments on IMDB.

Araujo makes it a compelling whole, the single camera and real time gimmicks work surprisingly well. And the cast, unknown to me, also plays well - at least, I assume that they are not playing a role that is very close to them, and then it is still quite well done. And you have to be looking forward to it too.

Whether or not it's actually a good or even meaningful movie, hmm, I don't know. Not really pleasant to look at, and you won't reach the kind of brown shirt fetishists that it is really about - that is also easy to see in the reactions on IMDB. Fortunately, they are staying behind here for the time being, which gives some hope.
