Zeppos - Het Mercatorspoor plot
On his 18th birthday, digital native Benjamin Kurrel inherits the legacy of his missing father Ben Kurrel: a box of ancient artifacts. When he gives an antique book to Slien Sleyp, the girl he has a crush on, he inadvertently sets in motion a chain reaction. An old man who introduces himself as Zeppos takes a great interest in the book, which is said to have once belonged to cartographer Mercator. Using the secret messages in Mercator's book, the trio uncover more and more of the mystery, while also having to stay one step ahead of a mysterious adversary.

I have never seen the legendary series on the BRTN, because I am too young, but I am familiar with the tune. I don't get any further than some loose fragments from TV shows or quizzes. This film adaptation makes an attempt to also involve the current generation in that series. Most may not realize it.
If we look at it as a pure youth adventure film, then the film is quite successful. Not that it surpasses other films in the genre (genre Nachtwacht, Anubis), but it was entertaining. A bit naive and tailored to children, but quite fun, also for adults.
Rupelmonde and especially Vlassenbroek (Dendermonde) are right in my region. Nice also that ode to Mercator. Carry Goossens does a great job as Captain Zappos and the technical gadgets of the glasses and that rolling thing also attract today's youth. And Gharib also fits better as a naughty girl instead of a doll. Nice!

Watched this family movie once and it was a nice movie. An adventure film that can appeal to young and old. The cast did a good job and visually it was also well done. I don't really know the original series, so I don't know if they stayed true to it. The amphibious car and the tune do pass in review.
The running time was also good, not too long and not too short. There was also hinted at a second part if you stay with the credits for a while.
