Rebellion plot

In April 2019, Extinction Rebellion blocks some strategic traffic points in London for days, arresting hundreds of nonviolent protesters. Rebellion works, international climate lawyer Farhana Yamin is almost surprised when the government grants their demand to declare a climate emergency. She has been campaigning for climate justice at the UN for decades, but she is disappointed with the progress being made there. That's why she joins this new movement, which is holding governments accountable for their negligence in the face of the climate crisis. In interviews, the activists reveal their motivations for participating and they look back on actions and the reactions to them.

A look back at the early years of Extinction Rebellion through the eyes of founders Gail Bradbrook and Roger Hallam and former UN envoy and diplomat Farhana Yamin who, after years of empty promises and chagrin of behind-the-scenes lobbying, publicly supports the action group. Hallam is a radical who is the main driving force behind the actions in London in April 2018 in which protesters peacefully caused traffic chaos in the city centre. Extinction Rebellion has definitely achieved positive results, but over time differences of opinion arise about how it should take action. The internal struggle is most painfully expressed when Roger Hallam is pitted against his daughter Savannah. A relevant time document, but also a fascinating investigation into the organization of peaceful action and the personal toll it can take.
