Children of the Mist plot
Di is a twelve-year-old girl from the mist-shrouded mountains of northern Vietnam. She belongs to the Hmong, an ethnic minority where girls get married at a very young age. This is often preceded by a controversial 'bride apping', in which the girl is "kidnapped" by her future husband on New Year's Eve. This is followed by negotiations between the families. So it was with Di's sister and their mother. So it doesn't feel strange that the women and girls, as a preparation, talk to each other about sex and married life without embarrassment. But Di also goes to school and there she learns very different mores. And in her way, even Di's mother tries to warn her daughter about child marriage.

Documentary about North Vietnamese Hmong community in which it is traditional for a boy to kidnap a girl he is interested in, bring to his own house and force him to marry him. This documentary focuses on Di, a 13-year-old girl who belongs to the first generation of children who grew up with social media and, partly because of this, does not intend to accept the traditions of her people without a fight. When Vang expresses interest in wanting to marry her, Di has to be very strong in her shoes not to see her dream of the future (finishing a study) go up in smoke. A screenwriter could not have written this better. If you sometimes get the feeling that Le Diem has to intervene, then that exactly illustrates the dilemma both she and Di face. The IDFA awarded Le Diem with the prize for Best Director.
