"The guests have arrived."
Four friends from the art world gather at a country house to celebrate a birthday. The artist Eva will also present her new sculpture. During the evening secrets are revealed, but the friends have to fear the locals who are chasing them.

A well-acted thriller in which fans of the genre unfortunately have to wait almost an hour for anything exciting to happen. Director Charles Dorfman gives his well-created characters ample space to develop, but forgets that these characters have little justification for being unique or distinctive. This isn't the fault of the cast, as they are convincing, but Barbarians feels far too long. The final half hour focuses more on violence and menace, but is actually too tame and unremarkable to justify such a long wait. Visually, the film appears well-conceived, and the filmmakers try to inject a certain degree of intelligence into it; unfortunately, the final result is somewhat disappointing.
