In a village in rural Japan, a school is about to close, weighing heavily on students. Akira sees Maki on the roof of a farm one day and becomes fascinated by this mysterious teenager, who has left school for unknown reasons. Akira discovers a crop circle, in which Maki lies peacefully. They become friends and swear to silence about this fascinating discovery. But secrets are hard to keep in a small town, and in the age of social networks, rumors spread quickly.

Very handsome.

There are plenty of Japanese dramas nowadays, they are often either a bit too slick, or a bit too aimed at the Western festival market. All the more beautiful to make this kind of discovery. A small indie film that adds a bit of genre, but is also very stylized.

Rural drama is always nice, if only because of the pleasant setting. It is also used optimally here, yet it is mainly Narita's directing that makes the big difference. That and the very strong performance of Nagasawa. In every respect, this film is actually quite good.

And the best thing is ... just to see for free until the end of September:
