Suffering from ghosts, poltergeists or paranormal plague? The Schimm Brothers will help you out of trouble. Where monsters lurk, these professional ghost hunters spring into action. They catch all the creeps and lock them up for good, in the closet, basement, or under the bed. Until they track down a new supernatural phenomenon thanks to the wayward girl Lilith. A solid family film with that pinch of horror. A Ghostbusters light tailor-made for children. So it never gets scary. Although I did find it lame at times, even for children. I didn't think the ghosts (rather animals) were that great. Then I found the ghost figures more intriguing.
The ghostbusters duo did well. A bit simple and not too intelligent, but perfectly tailored for children. I thought that one pun/joke about Mark was hilarious.

Perhaps scary for the little ones, but actually a great film for the youngest teenagers. At times fun, sometimes less so, but here and there witty (bland) humor. The scenario is not surprising and rather clichéd with a misunderstood teenager who feels abandoned.

This Flemish-Dutch production has a dubbed version for the Dutch market. It takes the soul out of the film, a mortal sin. It has been done more often lately, I hope it doesn't become a habit. Plat Vlaams may be a bit harder to follow, but there are many examples that prove that a Flemish-Dutch production is easy to follow, for both the Flemish and the Dutch viewer. The story itself is simple, semi-funny, not a high flyer. Because of the dubbing I round it down. *2.0

Blandly colored family horror film with a number of remarkably funny creatures. For example, the opening contains an apparition that goes by the name of "Bezetel" and that immediately sets the tone for what may yet come. Unfortunately, director Michael Van Ostade then takes his foot off the gas to make room for the introduction of the children, who unfortunately come across as rather caricatural and theatrical. The young cast members will certainly have had fun among themselves, but it translates somewhat awkwardly to the audience. The content is very bland in this way and the space between the creatures is far too wide to continue to captivate repeatedly. The very noisy design of the humor also clashes with the fact that the director is indeed aiming for a healthy dose of tension. It is nice that these kinds of projects are still being realized, but De Gebroeders Schimm has become a mess to say the least, with fortunately a number of memorable moments for bonus points.
