Ritueel plot
Kiki is a diver specializing in forensic diving and the recovery of corpses. She has had to fight hard for the respect of the small team of machos she leads. When Kiki fishes up a severed hand from a Brussels canal, she comes into contact with Chief Inspector Nick Cafmeyer. The hand appears to be sawn off alive. Nick looks for it in a reckoning in the drug scene, but Kiki, from her background, has a very different view on the matter.

This is really a good movie.
8 years after The Treatment, finally another film by Hans Herbots.
Strong cast, good film adaptation of the book, suspense,....
Hopefully the next film by Hans will also be a film adaptation & we won't have to wait that long

8 years after The Treatment we get a new film by Hans Herbots. In addition to Black's screenplay, he has been mainly active with series since then. At Herbots you can expect a rock-solid Flemish thriller. And that has become Ritual. The film floats between the clichés, but fortunately never puts it too thick. And with main actors Marie Vinck and Geert Van Rampelberg you have a solid cast. Also Ériq Ebouaney is pretty good.
Ritual is a captivating thriller that is very well made. Even if it doesn't stand out in terms of originality, it is craftsmanship and I hope we don't have to wait another 8 years for a new Herbots film. And perhaps the first film that takes a more critical look at our colonial past, without waving the finger or turning it into a one-sided debate.

Pretty good thriller, but there are much better ones. The plot is a bit over-the-top and an attempt is made to make it more interesting by bringing in the Belgium-Congo relationship. The acting was okay, but I didn't find it exciting anywhere. In any case, the solution was very predictable. It wasn't a bad movie to watch, the running time was long but acceptable and the only spectacular thing I found was the ending ; "I don't have a brother anymore".
