Ominous, very gloomy British revenge film, well made and played. Especially protagonist Neil Maskell, who we still know from the equally excellent Kill List, is on a roll here. The plot is not exactly surprising and of course we have seen such films many times before, but it must be said that this one stands above ground level in terms of intensity and atmosphere. Nice and short too, so that the pace never slackens and the tension remains good until the uncomfortable end.

Fantastic ominous revenge movie. The approach (it is coming) has of course been done before, but the effect has been found very well.

Raw realistic filming and especially great how the side of the gangster family is highlighted. Through their eyes you experience the fear of "he's coming". Only towards the end do you really understand where the panic comes from.

A real gut-punch of a film and with a duration of 1 hour and 28 minutes nice and sharp. (Also made for less than £500,000)

4 * and (but can get another half star in review) Recommended!

Did someone describe this film as a combination of Kill List and Dead Man's Shoes and that comparison does indeed apply to the film. Only this feels like a somewhat watered-down version of the strong elements from both films.

Also have some mixed feelings about it. Found it strong somewhere and gives a slightly different twist to what would otherwise just be a fairly average (but strongly executed) typical grimy British revenge film, but on the other hand it falls a bit short in the end. If you're going for such a ''wtf'' twist anyway, then really go for it completely (like a Kill List did), the black eyes didn't exactly have the hoped-for shock factor that could have used such an ending.

Furthermore, just well executed genre work, nice grim atmosphere, very strong acting by Maskell but also the rest of the cast, and finally an atmospheric soundtrack. But despite the attempt made at the end, it doesn't really want to rise above itself. 3*
