Sigh. In the first hour you still hope for a 'twist' that it will turn out well. But more and more this incredibly bad story with far too clear references to Dickens goes downhill towards the abyss. The last part is excruciating. What a waste...really, one of the worst films I have seen this year.
Maybe the first half hour is fun for budding graffiti artists. But a tip for them too: turn it off afterwards.

Nice.
Twist is a modern adaptation of a story that I honestly am not that familiar with, despite the enormous status it has acquired over the years. So for me it is difficult to compare it to the source material, but I would not have done that anyway. It is clear that this film does (or wants to do) its own thing.
The beginning is nice and smooth and by means of some spinning cameras and fast montages we are immediately launched into the story. At that point my interest was still at its maximum, because modern and nice energetic cinema appeals to me very much. It is therefore never really a big problem to watch Twist until the end, because entertainment also seems to have the priority.
What still characterizes a nice beginning eventually drops only when the film really starts with the story itself. That is namely a rather mediocre event that is not told impressively or nicely at all. Also the style starts to hold itself back a bit, which makes you enjoy the presentation less. Unfortunately that continues throughout the film, which makes the concentration slacken eventually.
It's a shame, because Twist was well on its way to being a good entertainment, but in the end it makes itself too difficult by starting with a very basic story that it has a bit more trouble blending its modern style with. Despite the nice presentation in the first 20 minutes, but I didn't think it was as bad as most people say it is.

Imagine you are an adolescent or older teenager, then this film might have some common ground regarding the intimacy between 2 young people in a harsh world of survival. The whole thing limps a bit from that survival and freedom to freerun and art loving. This completes the plot, in which the role of Caine, with his great English accent, ultimately determines the total picture... Painting. The link to Twist's mother, in which he lets his mother live on in his being and with her art is well done. Red, his girlfriend, is a nice addition to this. Because in the end it is about 1 thing. Just being allowed to be who you are and being seen. Furthermore, there are some catches to this film... The bad Lady is moderately convincing. A bit too many clichés, temptation, pick pocket etc. it's all just not quite there. Most beautiful scene.. Artwork on a vacant building of mega size, made by hanging from a rope construction.
