"Say your prayers."
The vice detective Bob Hightower is in mourning after his former wife is murdered. He cannot stand still for long, because his daughter has been kidnapped by a satanic cult. However, the amateur work with the police bothers him greatly and Bob resigns. He infiltrates the cult and hunts down its leader Cyrus. He receives help in the form of Case Hardin, a victim who managed to escape the cult.

Apparently there are two versions in circulation, a trimmed version of around 2 hours and the official running time of 155 minutes (most likely the "Director's Cut"). In any case, the 2-hour version is not recommended, or at least, it is clear that quite a bit has been cut out because the story jumps a bit from one point to the next. Although the reviews from those who have seen the 155 minute version aren't particularly positive either, so there may be some fundamental issues with the movie that can't be resolved; regardless of length.
My score mostly goes to the performances of the two leads, the dark atmosphere, and the hope that a revision of the longer version will fix several issues with the screenplay.

Messy, poorly played and much too long action thriller, apparently based on a true story. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Maika Monroe can pass in the lead roles, but their characters constantly make implausible decisions and the dialogues are pitiful. The rest of the cast is below par. In fact, director Nick Cassavetes never manages to strike the right tone, with the result that the film is not really annoying, but it is far too exaggerated and has a portion of unnecessary blunt violence.

A bit of a disappointment. The kind of story in which Coster, as far as the cast is concerned, does not belong. Crime? Thriller? Maybe some action, that's all. The journey to the actual destination is boring and meaningless and then you are already on the road for an hour and a half with a lot of stupid nonsense before anything actually happens. They try to make it interesting with a certain type of music, but that doesn't work either. And a lot of strange things: a fireworks show, a daughter who doesn't even appear in the picture after being found. Quickly forget this movie. At least I do.
