In the summer of 2016, a fishing boat off the coast of Iceland caught something very special: four rolls of 35mm film, apparently of Soviet origin. The excitement was soon tempered when it turned out that this was not a lost important work, but an incomplete copy of the beloved (and excellently preserved) popular comedy Derevenskij Detektiv (1969, Ivan Lukinskij), or The Village Detective. Throw it away, since it has no historical or commercial value? Bill Morrison didn't think so.
