Sabaya plot

Six years ago, IS invaded Yazidi villages around Mount Sinjar in northern Iraq, killing the men and kidnapping the women. Some 7,000 women are still held captive as 'sabaya' (sex slaves) in the IS detention camp of Al-Hol in Syria. Mahmud, Ziyad and the other volunteers from the Jezidi Home Center are their only chance of escape from hell.

Didn't find it a particularly strong documentary. In addition to the low informative value, it is often repetitive. Sabaya shows four times (or is it five times?) how a Yazidi shelter will rescue Daesh slave girls in the al-Hol camp on the border with Iraq. They use infiltrators for this purpose, who then tell them which tents the Jezidi girls are in. This is followed by a risky rescue operation and they are housed in a safe house.

Unfortunately, interviews and fascinating testimonials from the girls and men of the center do not materialize and that is a pity in a documentary that actually refuses to frame it more broadly. Now that the girls are free, what's the plan? And why don't the Syrian forces free the Yazidi girls from the clutches of the Daesh men?

Kurdish girls and young women from Baghouz in Syria have been kidnapped in large numbers by IS and sold as 'sabay' (sex slave). This documentary follows a family's attempt to find out if their daughter is now among the IS prisoners of war in Camp Al-Hol. That means that other women go undercover among the prisoners. Meanwhile, the threat of an invasion from Turkey and/or a new attack by IS hangs over their heads. Not always easy to follow, but it is full of bizarre and/or exciting moments, especially in the last half hour.
