Beautiful animation documentary about an underexposed theme: life as an adolescent in the Soviet Union during the cold war, with also the difficult Baltic war past (Latvia had gained independence from Germany and was divided in the battle during the Second World War).

Based on the filmmaker's personal story, many elements of a totalitarian society and the other side in the cold war are presented.

Ilze Burzkovska Jacobsen tells her life story (largely) in the form of an animated film. She was born in 1971 in Latvia, which was then the westernmost point of the Soviet Union. Because her father is a loyal party member, she has a fairly carefree childhood. When father dies unexpectedly, Ilze watches her mother struggle to make ends meet. Ilze hopes to secure the future by becoming active in the youth movement and thus secure a future as a successful journalist. But in the course of the 1980s, major changes take place in the Soviet Union. And in Latvia. The title refers to the Russian heroism during the Second World War, which was decisive for the Russian identity, but also for the Latvian drive for independence. A deeply personal film that provides a striking insight into the doctrine with which Ilze's generation grew up.
