The Blot plot
Professor Griggs lives in poverty with his family and sees with sorrow how the rich sons, whom he tries to educate, show little interest in his lessons. Phil, one of his students, has a crush on his beautiful daughter Amelia, but has to tolerate that there are privateers on the coast. When Amelia becomes ill, Phil realizes how dire her situation is.
