Renato, a successful Mexican airline executive, is shocked to discover that he has an American half-brother he never knew, the free-spirited Asher. The two very different half-brothers are forced to go on a road trip together, devised by their ailing father. The two follow the path their father took as an immigrant from Mexico to the US.

The film is based on a beloved scenario. A scenario that is often used in comedies. Take two characters who are very different from each other and do not like each other very much and force them to be stuck with each other for a certain period of time. Drawing up such a plot is not difficult. During most of such a film, both characters are annoyed with each other. To the great joy of the viewer. In the end, after hard work and severe suffering, rapprochement is a fact and there is feelgood. See here in short the unsurprising and therefore non-spoiler film course of Half Brothers.
The setting is nice. A road trip. I like films with a road trip. The two characters who participate and who therefore do not like each other very much, are in principle excellently shaped as opposites and that is a guarantee for a lot of humorous noise and funny incidents. In itself that works well. What I started to dislike a bit in the long run was the (rather) caricatural elaboration of the characters and the humor that became less sharp in the course of the film and started to take on repetitive traits.
There is also a story with side plots. That story is not particularly interesting or remarkably ingeniously constructed. What is striking are the socially critical jabs about economic refugees and torn families that the film hands out between all the commotion. Quite impressive in itself. It is just that the fragments that play on the emotions are planted in the film without much introduction. They are there suddenly so that the emotional effect is almost nil.
Half Brothers is a film that evokes mixed feelings. Nice absurd moments alternate with cheesiness. Furthermore, many clichés regarding the characters and clichés processed in the story. The big plus is that the film made me laugh at many moments. Those moments are more than enough to polish away the negative points.

Roadtrip movie where 2 completely different characters grow together. It's just a shame that the characters are too extreme. Movie poster above gives a good idea of what to expect. Endlessly running for others because they did something stupid again and that goat was also strange and not nice. Let's save a goat and take it in the car. That animal has pooped everywhere within 5 minutes. Lots of shouting and fights. Standard story but too extreme......
