Probably has to do with the fact that I've become obsessed with broadway musicals this year but I enjoyed it a lot. I like the show itself better but I thought the broadway actors (mainly Streep and Corden) were much more likable here. The music and humor is mostly the same but I don't have a problem with that at all. But if you hate musicals you better avoid this movie. Every now and then they tried to make the music a bit too hip. And just like in the show the finale where Alyssa's mother accepts her is a bit forced. Other than that I enjoyed it purely.

Nice film in which a few musical stars help a girl who is not allowed to go to the end of year ball with another girl. A musical with overly exaggerated characters where the message is also clearly visible. Especially because of the many side paths rather long. The songs (although they sound a bit similar) are doable.

Nicole Kidman marathon 54#

Terrible glitter poop, not very interesting and not much depth in this film.

Was on my list for a long time, because of the cast and because I like musicals. The story didn't appeal to me right away, but I thought I would get over that. The story is however one of the biggest problems of this film. It is not interesting enough to fill and captivate for two hours. In addition, the songs are not catchy or fun, it all sounds the same and the characters are also empty, uninteresting and cliché.

The subject is quite deep, but everything around it is about nothing. It is just laughing, screaming, roaring. Kidman literally has nothing to do. The other three have much more attention in the film. Of which that horrible James Corden is the worst. The idea that 4 faded glory artists get wind of what is happening in a small town/village is also ridiculous. It just doesn't make sense.

At the end, the bullies or popular kids or whatever you want to call them suddenly understand it all after 1 song. They are suddenly very tolerant. Why? Why? It's so easy.

Unfortunately one of the worst musical movies I have ever seen. Not recommended. Certainly not if you are not really into musicals.
