Vlucht der Verbeelding plot

An explicateur falls in love with the characters from the silent films he verbally accompanies. While the door is banging outside, the explicator dives into his fantasy. The living room, shielded from daylight with thick curtains, is in his mind a room full of moviegoers.

Boris Paval Conen was a name I had been curious about for some time because he worked on Elixir d'Anvers. Since that film is virtually impossible to find, I decided to take a different tack and try Flight of the Imagination. It is a short film where the line between reality and fantasy appears to be very thin and therefore you continue to watch with fascination. Technically it's nicely done with Jan Decleir providing the voices for his projections but it is above all thanks to the same Decleir that this manages to gain some extra points. A Belgian icon par excellence and these kinds of strange roles simply suit him very well. I can imagine that this could have gone deeper with a different actor.
