Blackly comic and slightly absurdist film about a Holocaust survivor who has retreated to the Colombian countryside and thinks his new neighbor is Hitler. Clearly plays with the hypothesis that Hitler would have built a new life in South America; That was a theory that many people of my parents' and grandparents' generation believed until well into the 1980s. I thought it was quite fun because the film is carried by two great actors who play convincingly. Also reminded me a bit of those understated Scandinavian comedies. And so you get a modest work that feels a bit bigger and ends with a nice twist, but could have been a little sharper. The film is not too concerned with the tragic side and memories of the war, although the horror of the Nazis does creep through a crack. Whatever the past looked like, finally life goes on...
